Často kladené otázky o eSIM Turecko

Získám s eSIM telefonní číslo?
Ne.
Mohu uskutečňovat a přijímat hovory a textové zprávy (SMS)?
Běžné hovory a SMS ne – eSIM poskytuje pouze mobilní data.
U téměř 3 000 eSIM našich zákazníků, jejichž tarif už skončil, spotřebovala typická eSIM polovinu až dvě třetiny tarifu a u menších tarifů (1-5 GB) vyčerpala všechna data zhruba každá třetí eSIM. Mapy a zprávy spotřebují málo; nejvíc video, videohovory a sdílení připojení. Pokud si nejste jistí, vezměte o velikost větší tarif. A když vám data dojdou, můžete si kdykoli koupit další eSIM – k její instalaci budete potřebovat WiFi.
Jaké rychlosti sítě získám v Turecko?
Vaše eSIM Turecko využívá místní mobilní síť: 4G a tam, kde ji síť nabízí, i 5G. Rychlost závisí na pokrytí a vaší poloze.
Mohu používat svou eSIM jako hotspot/tethering?
Ano, ale pouze u datových tarifů s pevným objemem dat. Neomezené tarify nepodporují hotspot ani tethering.
Kdy mám nainstalovat svou eSIM Turecko?
eSIM si nainstalujte, dokud jste doma připojeni k WiFi.

Staying connected in Fethiye: the local guide

Tísňová čísla

  • 112 - police, ambulance and fire
  • 158 - coast guard, which does real work on this coastline

Časové pásmo

TRT (UTC+3) all year - Turkiye abolished daylight saving in 2016

Počasí

Mediterranean with a long season: hot dry summers (33-36C, sea warm into October), mild wet winters (10-15C) with most rain December to February

The Lycian coast is covered by Turkcell, Vodafone and Turk Telekom, and your eSIM rides one of them as its host. Fethiye town, Oludeniz, Calis and Hisaronu all have dense 4G with 5G reaching the built-up areas. The coverage question here is not about the town at all. It is about the fact that most of what you came for happens either 1,900 metres above it or several kilometres out to sea.

You will spend your best days somewhere your phone cannot follow

Fethiye's three signature experiences are all, in connectivity terms, gaps.

Paragliding off Babadag. Take-off is at around 1,900 m and you descend over Oludeniz for twenty to forty minutes. Babadag is one of the most reliable paragliding sites in the world, which is why the sky above the lagoon is full of wings from morning to evening. Your phone is going in a zipped pocket - the pilot films you on their own kit - and the mountain road up is a long series of switchbacks with intermittent service.

The twelve islands boat trip. A full day out in the bay, stopping at coves and islands. You lose the shore between stops, and the day is deliberately unhurried.

The Lycian Way. The 500 km waymarked trail runs along this coast, and the Fethiye-to-Kabak section is among its most walked. Once you are above the road on the ridge, coverage is intermittent by design - it follows villages and passes, not the trail.

The rule that covers all three: screenshot everything. Your booking, your pickup time, your meeting point, your return arrangement. The recurring Fethiye mistake is arriving at a jetty at the wrong hour with a confirmation you cannot open.

Where else the signal gets weird

Butterfly Valley. A steep-sided gorge reached by boat or by an alarmingly exposed footpath down the cliff. High walls, deep valley, essentially no signal. Boats run to a schedule and the last one back is not negotiable - confirm it when you land, out loud, with a person.

Saklikent Gorge, an 18 km canyon with walls up to 300 m. You wade in cold water between rock walls. Nothing works, which is fine.

Kayakoy, the abandoned Greek village above Fethiye - hundreds of roofless stone houses on a hillside, emptied by the 1923 population exchange. Coverage on the hill is patchy and the ruins are large enough to lose people in.

Kabak and the far coves, down a steep road south of Oludeniz.

Fethiye harbour and the marina are fine, as is the town, which is where you should do your downloading.

One Turkish rule, briefly

Turkiye blocks foreign handsets used with a Turkish SIM card beyond a grace period generally quoted as 120 days - the block is on the device, so changing operator does not help, and lifting it usually requires Turkish residency papers a visitor will not have.

It is triggered by the local SIM. Roaming and travel eSIMs are outside the scheme entirely, so a holiday never encounters it. Only relevant if the Lycian coast is a base rather than a stop - and Fethiye does have a substantial long-stay foreign community, so it comes up here more than at most resorts.

The apps that need data here

  • A wind and weather app that shows conditions at altitude. This is the local one. Paragliding flights are cancelled for wind on a meaningful number of days, and the decision is made on the mountain, not in the office. Anyone with a booking checks the forecast obsessively.
  • BiTaksi covers the region, and dolmuses do most of the short-hop work between Fethiye, Calis, Hisaronu and Oludeniz - frequent, cheap and flagged from the roadside rather than booked.
  • Boat and trip schedules, which change seasonally and with the weather.
  • Offline maps if you are walking any of the Lycian Way, where the waymarking is good but the phone is the backup.

Arriving

Dalaman (DLM) is the airport, about 50 km northeast - roughly 45 minutes to an hour by road. Havas shuttles run to Fethiye; transfers and taxis cover the rest.

Note that Antalya (AYT) is around three hours away along the coast. It has far more flights, and people underestimate that drive badly when comparing fares.

Fethiye is also a common start or end point for gulet cruises down to Olympos and Antalya - the classic Blue Cruise route - which means a chunk of arrivals are heading straight onto a boat.

How much data do you need in Fethiye?

Modest, front-loaded. This is a sit-still-and-do-day-trips holiday, and the day trips are offline.

For a week, 1GB per 3 days is comfortable, with the pre-download habit. Size up if you are working from a villa - the long-stay community here does, and the fixed connections are good. Plans top up from your dashboard, and our best eSIM for Turkey guide covers the host networks if you are combining the coast with Istanbul or Cappadocia.

What to wear

Proper shoes for the walks. Butterfly Valley's cliff path, the Saklikent gorge and any Lycian Way section are not sandal territory, and the gorge involves wading in genuinely cold water.

Layers for the paraglide. It is cold at 1,900 m even when the beach is at 35C, and the take-off area is exposed - operators provide a jacket, but bring your own if you feel the cold.

Sun protection, seriously. Boat days deliver reflected glare for eight hours and people burn badly.

Modest cover for Kayakoy's churches and any mosque visit, and for wandering the town away from the marina.

The photos everyone wants (and how to get yours)

The Blue Lagoon at Oludeniz from above - either from a paraglide or from the road viewpoint on the way up Babadag. The sandspit curving into impossibly graded turquoise is the image that sells this coast, and it is accurate.

Kayakoy at golden hour, the roofless village on its hillside, which is beautiful and genuinely melancholy.

Butterfly Valley from the boat, looking into the gorge as you approach.

The Lycian rock tombs cut into the cliff face directly above Fethiye town - the Tomb of Amyntas is floodlit at night and visible from the harbour.

Sunset from Calis beach, which faces west and is the local ritual.

Fun facts

Fethiye is built on ancient Telmessos, and the Lycian rock tombs above the town are 4th century BC - carved to look like temple facades, high on a cliff, and lit up over a modern harbour.

The town was largely destroyed by earthquakes in 1856 and 1957, which is why the old town is small and the modern town is not.

Kayakoy was emptied in the 1923 population exchange between Greece and Turkiye, when its Greek Orthodox population left and the village was never resettled - around 350 houses stand roofless.

And Babadag hosts world championship paragliding events, with take-off platforms at multiple altitudes so pilots can fly in conditions that would ground them elsewhere.

Big events

Summer, May to October, is the long season - this coast stays swimmable well into autumn.

The Oludeniz Air Games in autumn bring international paragliding and air-sport competition to Babadag.

Peak is July and August, when Hisaronu and Oludeniz fill with package traffic and prices rise.

Winter is quiet and mild, which is why the long-stay community is here at all - much of the resort infrastructure closes but the town keeps working.

Why people love it - and why some don't

The love: this is the best-looking stretch of the Turkish coast, and the combination is hard to beat - a real working harbour town, a world-class paragliding site, a beach lagoon that lives up to its photographs, ancient tombs above the high street, and the Lycian Way starting on the doorstep. Prices remain reasonable and the season is long.

The complaints are consistent. Hisaronu and Oludeniz's strip is heavily developed package tourism with the bars and touts that implies, and visitors expecting Turkish authenticity find it a few streets away rather than in front of them. Oludeniz beach charges and gets extremely crowded in August. The Dalaman transfer is longer than people plan for, and the Antalya one much longer. And the paragliding, while very safe by the numbers, is weather-dependent - flights cancel, and a three-day trip can miss it entirely.

Stay in Fethiye town or Calis rather than the strip, book the paraglide for early in your trip so weather leaves you a second chance, and go in June or September.

FAQ: Fethiye connectivity

Will my phone work while paragliding?

It will have signal at points, but it is going in a zipped pocket - take-off is at around 1,900 m and the descent is twenty to forty minutes. Pilots film the flight on their own equipment, which is what everyone ends up using. The mountain road up has intermittent coverage.

Is there signal at Butterfly Valley?

Effectively no - it is a steep-sided gorge reached by boat or a cliff path. Confirm the time of the last boat back with a person when you arrive, because you will not be phoning to check.

Will Turkiye block my phone?

Only if you use a Turkish SIM in a foreign handset beyond the grace period, after which the device is barred from Turkish networks. Roaming and travel eSIMs sit outside that scheme. Worth checking current BTK rules if you are wintering here rather than visiting.

Which airport should I use?

Dalaman (DLM), about 50 km and 45-60 minutes away. Antalya (AYT) has far more flights but is roughly three hours from Fethiye - factor that in properly when comparing fares.
