Frequently Asked Questions about Lebanon eSIM

Do I get a phone number with the eSIM?
No. Our eSIMs are data-only, so they do not come with a phone number. You use them for internet access — maps, WhatsApp, email, social media, streaming and any other app. Your existing SIM keeps your own phone number active.
Can I make or receive calls and text messages (SMS)?
Not standard calls or SMS — the eSIM provides mobile data only. You can call and message as much as you like through internet apps such as WhatsApp, FaceTime, Telegram, Signal or Messenger, which run on the eSIM's data. Standard calls and SMS keep working on your usual number through your home operator, as long as you keep that SIM active.
How much data do I need for Lebanon?
The Lebanon plans run from 1 GB for a week to 10 GB for 30 days. A gigabyte goes a long way on maps, messaging and WhatsApp calls; choose 5 or 10 GB if you will stream video, video-call a lot or upload many photos.
What network speeds will I get in Lebanon?
You will be on Alfa's 4G: good in Beirut and along the coast, patchier on mountain roads and in the Bekaa. Alfa's 5G covers only a few Beirut sites so far.
Can I use my eSIM for hotspot/tethering?
Yes, but only for Data Plans with a fixed data allowance. Unlimited plans do not support hotspot or tethering.
When should I install my Lebanon eSIM?
Install your eSIM while you still have WiFi at home - it is safe to do so days in advance for either plan type. Per-GB plans only start when the eSIM first connects to a network in Lebanon. Unlimited plans run on the travel dates you select at checkout, with the days counting from your chosen start date whether the eSIM is installed or not - so make sure it is on your phone by that date.

Setting up your eSIM? The installation and activation guide walks through it step by step, and the full FAQ covers device compatibility, hotspot, dual SIM and topping up.

Airport WiFi & Internet in Lebanon

Your Lebanon eSIM runs on Alfa

Lebanon has two mobile networks, Alfa and touch; this eSIM uses Alfa. It does not switch to touch, so where Alfa's signal is weak there is no second network to fall back on. Alfa switched on its first 5G sites in Beirut in late 2025, but 5G is still limited to a few areas - you will be on 4G almost everywhere.

You get mobile internet, not a Lebanese number. WhatsApp, calls included, is widely used in Lebanon and has not been blocked, so you can message and call over WhatsApp as you do at home.

Coverage outside Beirut

Beirut, the coast and the main towns generally have good 4G; mountain roads and parts of the Bekaa can be patchy. In the south and the Bekaa, many mobile sites were damaged during the fighting in 2024 and again in 2026 and have only partly been restored, so coverage there is unreliable. Several governments currently advise against travel to these areas - check your own government's travel advice before you go.

Power cuts are frequent, and local mobile outages have happened during fuel shortages, so keep a power bank with you.

Arriving at Beirut airport (BEY)

Beirut-Rafic Hariri International (BEY) is currently Lebanon's only operating commercial airport. Travellers report that there is no SIM counter on arrival, and getting a local line usually means a shop visit with your passport - so set the eSIM up before you fly and it is ready to use when you land.

eSIM or a local visitor line?

If you need a Lebanese number, touch sells a Visitor Line: as of October 2026 it costs $19 for the line plus $13 for a 10 GB, 14-day bundle, before tax. The eSIM saves you the shop visit; a local line adds a Lebanese number for calls and SMS. You can also use the eSIM for data and WhatsApp for calls.

Good to know before you go

Can I switch between Alfa and touch?+

No. This eSIM uses Alfa only. If you need touch's coverage somewhere specific, a local touch line is the alternative.

Is there 5G in Lebanon?+

Only at a few sites in Beirut so far, so expect 4G with this eSIM.

Can I travel to the south of Lebanon with it?+

Several governments advise against travel to the south and the Bekaa, and mobile coverage there is unreliable after damage to the network. Check your government's current advice first.
