The eSIM app for people already on their way to the airport
Buy a data plan for 200+ destinations, install it in about two minutes, and keep every eSIM, QR code and balance in your pocket — with or without a signal.
Free to download. Nothing to sign up for before you look around, and no roaming bill when you land.
What the app does that a browser tab cannot
Everything below is in the app today, not on a roadmap.
One-tap install
On an iPhone running iOS 17.4 or newer, one tap opens your phone's own eSIM setup. No QR code to scan, no hunting through Settings.
Every eSIM in one wallet
Each QR code and activation you have bought, kept on the device and grouped by trip instead of buried in your inbox.
The data you have left
Remaining data and expiry at a glance, plus a Home Screen widget on iPhone so you can check without opening anything at all.
Your QR code, with no signal
The codes and activation details live on the phone, so you can find them the moment you land. Installing the eSIM itself needs Wi-Fi or data — the airport network is enough.
Locked to you
Face ID or your passcode can lock the wallet, and you can sign in with a passkey. Hand someone your phone and your trip stays yours.
200+ destinations
The whole catalogue is in the app — single countries, regional bundles and global plans — at the same prices as the website.
From download to data in three steps
About two minutes, most of it spent waiting for the store.
- 1
Download the app
Free from the App Store or Google Play. It opens straight into the destination list, and you can look around without an account.
- 2
Pick a destination and a plan
Choose a country, a region or a global plan and pay by card, PayPal, mobile wallet or crypto. Your eSIM appears in the app within a couple of minutes.
- 3
Install it and fly
Install before you fly, over Wi-Fi — the eSIM downloads from the operator right then, so it needs a connection. Switch data roaming on when you land and you are online on a local network.
iPhone and Android
Two apps, one account. Buy on one device, install on another.
On iPhone
iOS 17.4 or newer unlocks the one-tap install; everything else works on older iPhones too.
- One-tap eSIM install, with no QR code to scan
- Home Screen widget showing data left and expiry date
- Face ID or passcode lock on your eSIM wallet
- Sign in with Apple, Google or a passkey
On Android
Any Android phone with eSIM support, straight from Google Play.
- Installs from Google Play and opens full screen, with no browser bar
- QR codes kept on the device, so you can find them without a signal
- The same account and the same eSIMs as the iPhone app and the website
What is an eSIM app?
An eSIM app is where you buy a mobile data plan for the country you are travelling to, and where the eSIM itself lives once you have it. Instead of finding a shop at the airport and swapping a plastic SIM card, you choose a plan, the eSIM arrives as a QR code or an install button, and your phone connects to a local network.
Every eSIM works without an app — ours arrive by email and open on the website too. What an app adds is the awkward moments: installing the eSIM before you have any connection, checking how much data is left while you are out, and finding the QR code again when your inbox is full of boarding passes.

App or mobile site?
Both sell you the same eSIM at the same price. Here is where they differ.
| What you get | In the app | In a browser |
|---|---|---|
| Buying a plan | Yes, same prices | Yes, same prices |
| Installing the eSIM | One tap on iOS 17.4 or newer | Scan or copy the QR code |
| Your QR code with no signal | Stored on the device | Only if the page is already open |
| Checking the data you have left | Home Screen widget on iPhone | Open the site and sign in |
| Locking your eSIM wallet | Face ID or passcode | Browser session only |
How to choose an eSIM app
Five things worth checking before you install any of them, ours included.
- 1
Does it cover where you are actually going?
Coverage claims are easy to make. Look for the specific country, and for whether the plan runs on a local network or on a roaming agreement, because that is what decides your speed once you land.
- 2
Can you reach your QR code without a connection?
Installing always needs a connection — the profile downloads from the operator as you install it. What differs is whether the app can still show you the code and details when you have no data. One that keeps them on the device can; one that has to fetch them cannot.
- 3
Can you see the data you have left?
Usage that only appears in an email you received a week ago is not much use mid-trip. Check whether the app shows remaining data — and how easily, ideally without opening it.
- 4
What happens when something goes wrong?
Look for a support channel inside the app and a refund policy you can read before you buy, not after an install fails in an airport queue.
- 5
What does it do with your data?
Travel apps are unusually well placed to know where you are. Check whether the app tracks you for advertising and what it asks permission for on first launch.

Questions about the app
Is the eSIMpass app free?
Yes. Downloading and using the app costs nothing — you only pay for the data plans you decide to buy.
Do I need the app to use an eSIM?
No. Every eSIM we sell works from the email you receive and from the website. The app is for people who would rather keep their QR codes, their balance and support in one place on the phone.
Which phones is it for?
iPhones and Android phones with eSIM support. The one-tap install needs iOS 17.4 or newer; everything else works on older models. You can check your exact model on our compatibility list.
Can I install an eSIM straight from the app?
Yes. On an iPhone with iOS 17.4 or newer, one tap opens your phone's own eSIM setup. On other phones the app shows the QR code and the manual activation details to enter.
Does it work without an internet connection?
Partly, and the difference matters. The eSIMs you have already bought open offline — the QR code, the activation string and the details are stored on the phone. Installing one is not offline: the profile downloads from the operator at that moment, so you need Wi-Fi or existing data. Best to install before you fly; airport Wi-Fi works too.
Does the app track me?
No. Inside the app, third-party marketing and analytics are switched off entirely — which is also why it never asks you for tracking permission.
Do I need an account?
Not to look around or to buy — checkout only needs an email address. An account keeps your eSIMs together across devices, and you can sign in with Apple, Google or a passkey.
How do I get help if something goes wrong?
Chat is available in the app and on the site, and every order email has a reply address that reaches our support team.
Which is the best eSIM app?
It depends on where you are going: the app with the best plan for Japan is often not the one with the best plan for Brazil. Compare coverage for your destination first, then whether the app installs offline, shows your remaining data and answers support in the app. Our providers comparison sets the main ones against each other, including us.
Is there a free eSIM app?
The apps themselves are free, ours included — what you pay for is the data plan. Be careful with anything advertising free data: it is usually a small trial attached to a subscription.
